TOWN OF CANAAN
TRAFFIC ORDINANCE
ARTICLE VI – PARKING REGULATION
IN THE TOWN OF CANAAN, VERMONT
PURSUANT TO 24 V.S.A. CHAPTER 59
On October 31, 2022, the Selectboard of the Town of Canaan, Vermont, adopted amendments to the existing Traffic Ordinance Article VI Parking Regulations in the Town of Canaan, Vermont pursuant to 24 V.S.A. Chapter 59. This notice is published pursuant 24 V.S.A. Section 1972 to inform the public of these amendments and of the citizens’ right to petition for a vote to disapprove these amendments.
It will take effect on December 30, 2022, unless a petition signed by at least five percent of the voters of the Town of Canaan is filed with the municipal clerk by December 14, 2022, asking for a vote to disapprove the ordinance. If a petition is received, the Town of Canaan will warn a special meeting and the voters may vote on that question.

Section 10. It shall be unlawful to park on the west side of T.H. 24 (Park Street) from 51 Park Street to the end of the Alice Ward Library Property line a distance of 85 feet.
Section 11. A violation of any provision of Sections 1,2,3,4,5,& 10 shall be a civil matter enforced in accordance with provisions of 24 V.S.A. Section 1974A and 1977 et seq. A civil penalty of not more than $25.00 may be imposed for a violation of this civil Ordinance. Any vehicle parked in violation of the provisions of this Article may be summarily removed at the owner’s expense, by order of any law enforcement officer, road commissioner or selectman.
