CANAAN SCHOOL SYSTEM

The school system in Canaan consists of 184 students in grades K—12. As the school is relatively small, the 50 staff members are able to provide individualized attention to meet the personal needs of students. Learn more about the school system at the website www.canaanschools.org or by calling the Superintendent of Schools, Nathan Freeman at 802-266-3330. Historic Alice M. Ward Memorial Library

CANAAN LIBRARY

The Alice M. Ward Memorial Library was placed on the National Register of Historic Buildings in 1980. This neo-Palladian style building was constructed in 1846 by Fernando Jacobs as a stagecoach stop and was donated to the town by Alice M. Ward in 1930 to be used as a public library. It houses over 11,200 books, 300 videos and 140 audio tapes.

Materials not available at the library may be obtained through the Vermont inter-library loan system. Photocopy and fax services are available and the library offers high-speed internet access with four public computers. In addition to the monthly “Go Ask Alice Book Club” and weekly preschool play group, the library serves as a community center by offering a wide variety of programming for all ages.
