The Town of Canaan is pleased to announce that it has been awarded nearly $400,000 in Municipal Energy Resilience Program (MERP) Implementation Grant funding to support energy efficiency improvements at the Canaan Town Office and the Alice M. Ward Memorial Library.
This major grant award will assist the Town with important building upgrades intended to reduce energy use, improve heating and cooling efficiency, lower long-term operating costs, and strengthen the resiliency of two key municipal facilities. Project components may include energy-efficient window replacement, heat pump installation, electrical work, and related improvements identified through the Town’s MERP energy assessments.
The Town Office and Library both serve important public functions for Canaan residents, including municipal administration, elections, public records, emergency coordination, public access to information, community programming, and essential public services. These improvements will help ensure that both buildings remain efficient, functional, comfortable, and sustainable for years to come.
