Canaan is the most northern and eastern town in Vermont. It covers an area of 21,376 acres and is 1,355 feet above sea level. It consists of five villages: Canaan, South Canaan, Canaan, Hill, Beecher Falls and Lake Wallace.
HIGHWAYS
Canaan is located on route 114 and within easy driving distance of Montreal, Quebec, Boston, Massachusetts, Portland, Maine and Burlington, Vermont. It has 17.84 miles of state maintained highways, 2.35 miles of class II roads, 13.93 miles of class III roads and 9.80 miles of class IV roads.
PUBLIC WORKS
An ample supply of metered water with adequate fire flows is available throughout the entire service district. All water is chlorinated and stored in a covered reservoir. The town has a wastewater treatment facility. It also has a transfer station for garbage, which is separated and recycled. For hours of operation, please call the town clerk at 802-266-3370.
